The 7 Key Elements of a FictionIn this course you will learn all about the 7 key elements of a fiction. You will learn how to use everything from character to point of view to create a fictional story. At the end of this course, each student will write their own short fiction using the 7 key elements we learned about and at the end of this course we will be publishing their short stories within the class for the students to take home and show to their families.

Build A Hero's JourneyHave you ever wanted to play the part of hero and go on a journey? Each student will create a hero, learn about The Hero's Journey, and write a short story following the formula of The Hero's Journey. Students will also learn all about why and how The Hero's Journey applies beyond the realm of story and in the realm of reality. At the end of this course we will be publishing their short stories within the class for the students to take home and show to their families.

Build A WorldHave you ever wanted to create your own world? With this course you can! Over three days students will work together to learn about and create their own shared world using the elements of world building. Students will then be creating a basic suite of characters and writing a short story that takes place in their shared world. At the end of this course we will be publishing their short stories within the class for the students to take home and show to their families.

Poetry PowerDo you want to write poetry but don't know where to start? Over this course we will be studying 6 different kinds of poetry, and learning about what makes poetry cool. Then each student will get to write one or more poems in the different styles they learned about. At the end of this course we will be publishing their short stories within the class for the students to take home and show to their families.

Delightful DescriptionDescribing things is a delightful part of writing. In this course we will be talking about why description is important when writing. We will also be practicing describing different images, as well as describing students own made up things. At the end of this course we will be publishing their descriptions within the class for the students to take home and show to their families.

Exciting EmotionWriting emotions can be an exciting and informative process. Over this course we will be building our own "Emotion Thesauruses", a resource students can return to over and over again when writing. Students will learn about how to "show don't tell" emotions, and at the end of the class each student will write an emotional scene to take home with their emotion thesaurus.
